… and get good recommendations from your superiors when you are finally swimming with the sharks. Chos. From when you finally graduate and are now looking for a job.
1. Be inquisitive.
Hindi masamang magtanong. Hindi rin totoong “curiosity killed the cat.” Laging may “exception to the rule”, tandaan mo rin yan. magtanong ka lang ng magtanong. Kung hindi mo naintindihan, aba, e di ask some more. Just make sure though that you are asking relevant questions. kasi kung mga stupid questions lang din yan, aba e, ang sarap mong tuktukan,
Halimbawa.
2. Be proactive.
I love OJTs who are very, very much willing to learn. Off the top of my head, I really like Jen Bolinao of FEU, and Malou Diala (I forgot your school dear, if ever you cam across this post, lemme know, haha) Sobrang kukulitin ka pa nila na may ipagawa ka naman sa kanila.
Ending?
Jen, on the other hand, never failed to text us researchers once she has arrived at the office. May ipapagawa po ba kayo?
Don’t you just love trainees like them?
And when Malou told me she put me on her character reference, boy, I said I’d be glad to give her stellar recommendations. Because not only is she proactive, she also gets things done. So is Jen.
I wonder how these girls are?
3. When something is assigned to you, DO IT RIGHT.
I remember what my Public Relations professor told us: We do things extraordinarily well and right.
Then my former boss, Rhonadale Florentino taught me to do things right the first time. And do it wholeheartedly, because half-hearted shit just does not cut it.
What does this tell you? Your work is a reflection of yourself. I have said this over and over (here and personally, I think) that I do not want to taint my reputation (if I still havve one, chos) and the name of my school as well so I try to do things the right way. There are no shortcuts, shortcuts are the lazy person’s way of doing things. At nakakairita yun.
For instance, if you are asked to get all the pictures, get all the pictures, do not get me a handful, because a handful will not work. I don’t need a handful of photos, I need buckets of them.
Do you know that one time, I sent over a hundred photos to the editing team and they were still calling me just to ask: Wala na bang ibang pictures? Kulang e. I already gave over a hundred photos, so do not give me twenty, or thirty photos. Manipis. 😦 Stress Drilon.
4. Be unforgettable.
And not the unforgettable kasi ang shit shit ng work niya kind. Become the best that you can be na ikaw ang ikukwento sa future interns kind of trainee. Be unforgettable na kapag sinabi mong: Pwede ko po ba kayong ilagay sa character reference ko? e hindi kakailanganing magsinungaling ng superior niyo just so matanggap ka sa trabahong gusto mo. Or the kind na kung pwede ka lang bigyan ng 101 percent sa eval e bibigyan ka na. Hindi yung pucha, pahirapan pa sa kung papanong in a very very nice way para lang hindi ka bumagsak.
Wag tatamad-tamad.
I mean, I’m just saying. I’m not the best intern in the world ever. These are just but tips from a somewhat sophomore to a frosh like you in this concrete jungle. #padeep It’s still up to you kung paano mo ida-drive yang kotse mo.
Now maybe you are also asking, ano na naman ang pinaghuhugutan mo Carmina? Let’s just say, I’ve had a not-so-good encounters with a frosh today. Very disappointing. I would really love to teach the little things I’ve learned in this industry, but if you won’t listen to me, then I cannot do anything about it. I have been juggling these tasks for almost two years, and a few days with a messed up shoe heel is not going to cut it for me. I’d rather walk in flats. #mumemetaphor
Last na payo: If you don’t like the show that you are in, wala kang choice dyan. Make the best out of what you have. I bet mas marami pang deserving na mapunta sa posisyong yan na willing matuto at willing turuan ng staff, at eventually ay ipu-push ng mga taong yan na makatrabaho na nila for real in the future.
Rant lang. Sorry.
